The nurses made fun of my mother when she was dying of liver failure. They said she brought it upon herself by drinking alcohol. She never had a drink in her life. It was the pills they had been giving her for over twenty years. RIP mom

When I was 7 year old kid, the doctors insulted me right in front of my poor immigrant mother knowing she couldn’t do anything because the lack of education. I looked at her as she lowered her head with a sad expression. I didn’t know what she was feeling but it must have been devastating feeling powerless to stand up for her kid and with the lack of money and education to change doctors and clinics.

@bigislander72 Very true, luckily my memories start from that traumatic point, but many were happy ones and some annoying. At my 5th birthday party, which I enjoyed.. a neighbours daughter decided to open all my presents 'for me' and I was miffed for obvious reasons and sadly, we never became friends. As an adult I think I could have been a more forgiving child. :))

    • bigislander72

@Teenybabs crazy how it's the most traumatic stuff that one remembers.
For me, when I was around the same age it was when I had kidney issues and they had to insert a catheter...they had to do it three times and apparently the first time I was ok but not the other two. I remember my dad looking down, with his surgical mask on, at me from the head of the bed as the doctors did their thing.
The other time I was about 3-4 and did a face plant from a jungle gym into concrete. Both are pretty vivid.
After that the only concrete memories I have started at about age 6 or 7.

This is just a confirmation that education or social status don’t define us. It’s our character.
This happened to me twice! First time was 28 years ago when I gave birth to my youngest daughter through CSection. It was the senior resident that started talking about how her husband is disgusted with women who are “fat and have flabby belly”. I wasn’t totally knocked out and I guess that resident thought I was. I brought it to my OB’s attention weeks later and she was embarrassed for that resident but I’m not sure if she reprimanded her.
The second one was when I had a lumpectomy on my left breast. It was just a local anesthesia and I wanted to smack, again a resident, that made a comment how my boob has so many fats!
Good thing I have a husband who adores me no matter what. Because when I told him about these incidents he said that those residents were just envious of me because I am beautiful! ❤️

It happened to me when I gave birth to my first child. They were taking bets on my age saying that I was a young teenager that got caught and that I was trying to pass for 22. So when I completely woke up. I said you gossiping nurses and doctors all lose. I will have my parents bring my birth certificate in along with my driver's license and show you next month I will be 23. The doctor and those nurses just turned red. I in turn said if you can't say anything nice then you should practice keeping your mouth shut.

I'm a nurse. We were taught back in college that when talking in front of the patient to always assume the patient can hear you, whether you're in a coma, knocked out with anesthesia or even deaf. The fact that these licensed surgeons and nurses can't even follow basic education on patient's right to considerate and respectful care is a big disappointment.

And extremely dangerous . These assholes who feel the need to humiliate someone who can’t defend themselves is sickening enough . But while there saying these cowardly things , it’s taking away their concentration during surgery . I don’t think that would matter though , just these idiots feeling the need to say all this just puts their complete ineptitude on display . They will pay dearly for what they do . It should be against the law for ANY surgery not to be video and audiotaped . I’ll be looking into that .

It should not be such a shock to people that doctors and nurses do behave like any other flawed person in the world. I have at least five stories to tell about disrespectful doctors and nurses, all of them being inhumane and acting superior toward the patient, and the rest of the stories I have been a witness to but it's not mine to tell. I want to say this to those people with their degrees and PhDs. The Bible says that knowledge bloats a person's ego and it is nothing compared to love and faith. That knowledge that you have is God-given. Yes, it is, cause God has worked his power through man since the beginning of time and there are just enough unexplained miracles in this world that no specialist in medicine can explain because God has willed it to be or not to be. So, they better leave their arrogance at the entrance of that healthcare facility because people go there with hope and faith, and prayer, they don't need that negative energy from people with such a bloated opinion of themselves.

My lovely grandad wet the bed when in hospital with a rare paralysing disease at 87, he told us with his weak voice afterwards that he heard the nurses say “oh god he’s wet himself I’m not cleaning that up”. How horrible, they thought he was asleep but he wasn’t. How can they be so rude to an elderly man who is embarrassed and losing dignity. Shameful.

Another incident I and my girlfriend experienced was when she fractured her ankle. She was on welfare at the time and we went to the local emergency room. They, in turn, referred us to a local Doctor's office in the "fancy" part of town. Sitting in the waiting room we could hear the doctor saying to his secretary: " why do they send THEM here ?" When we went in for treatment he just strapped a Velcro boot around her lower leg/ foot. I said is that a standard thing you do ? Doesn't she need a cast ? Man was he pissed at me. I continued to say: we didn't ASK to come here, the hospital TOLD us to come here. If you don't want to treat people with Medicaid in your office you should tell the hospital. I thought "you guys" took an oath to take care of a person no matter their position in society ? He said: " we're DONE here, feel free to leave at your earliest convenience." I filed a complaint with the state professional medical ethics board and the AMA.

That's just the natural result of a for profit healthcare system. Depending on the specialization, doctors can make a LOT of money, so a lot of folks study to be a doctor just for the pay. They don't work because they want to help people, they just work for the money. In other work fields that perhaps is not really a problem, but when the jobs are about serving the community overall, too high of a salary may actually be a problem, because the primary appeal shifts from doing good to getting rich and as such not only people that have a sincere desire to do any particular work, but also those who are purely after the money will gravitate towards these jobs. There is a plethora of jobs that serve the community and are grossly underpaid, in the case of some medical professions (certainly not all) that may be the other way around.

A Dr , after seeing a patient, came to the nurses station and said “ there’s no trash like white trash”, referring to his patient . I was shocked, but not brave enough to call him out. He had a very busy surgical practice and made lots of money for the hospital.

      Well he has a point. You "should" be careful to how you talk with people, especially who;

      b. does surgeries on you.
You insult and threaten and be annoying to them, and then they do your work. Even if it is one in a thousand, it will end bad eventually.
It's best to be nice. Not just because of the consequences but well.. you know.. for being a decent person.
What did you think? You will argue, threaten a doctor to call your lawyer and annoy them like crazy, being a Karen, and expect they won't have a bad attitude towards you? Even then they apparently did their job perfectly so there were absolutely no complications after.

I’m a biochemistry student currently pursuing a career in dentistry, which involves a lot of the same undergrad and postgrad studies that the typical pre-med/dent and med/dent students get involved in during their biology undergrad. I must say, many (if not most) of the ones I meet are not the types I would want my general physicians or dentists to be. Doctors are often portrayed as these perfect individuals who seek only to help others. While that may be true in some cases, the unfortunate reality is that many are only going into medicine to pursue status and wealth, with little consideration of patient well-being.

Wow! I hope this kind of law applies in the Philippines too. I also hear my surgeons talking about me not able to have a child in the future and that I should go and consider adaption. I was half awake during the surgery and I can hear everyone including the male guys who assisted when I have to bend to get my spinal anesthesia. They are commenting about my back and it was so embarassimg because I was naked. I was so disappointed and imagine it happened in private hospital in the Philippines where I have to spend thousands of money !!! On top of this the surgery was not successful.
This hospital is known to have a lot of Filipino-Chinese Doctors!!!!

My wife was hospitalized long term years ago. I wasn't able to visit her for a few days as our 5 kids were sick and I didn't have someone to watch them. Her nurse told her I wasn't coming back at all, sending my wife into hysterics. when I did come back to visit with the now healthy kids she told me about the nurse and comments. After I found out her name, I went to the Charge Nurse and we had a discussion. Never encountered nurse Idiot again, I assume she was specifically not assigned the block of beds where my wife was located, and I didn't follow up further.

I absolutely agree with you! BUT some have been getting away with HEINOUS things for a LONG time. I've had female nurses friends over the years spill the beans on what nurses to do unconscious male patients under anesthesia. They go in groups if a guy is cute or if a female member of the surgical team already saw him naked and the guy was cute or had a big or small anatomy she would tell the other female nurses to quick go lift up his gown while he was still under anesthesia and unconscious in the PACU Recovery room, I'm talking like 15 or so female nurses going in and laughing gawking or sexually degrading the naked unconscious male patient. And I've had traveling nurses who've worked EVERYWHERE admitt this happens EVERYWHERE. That's sexual assault. And we wonder why men avoid or push off medical treatment. Who the hell wants to be unconscious lying on table and have 15 female nurses come in and lift their gowns up n laugh or mock their genitals. And EVERYONE in the medical profession knows this goes on and they do NOTHING about it.

Truly brave from that woman to record them and share her story. I remember some years ago I had an accident and one of the nurses (a stupid and senseless male nurse) was body shaming me coz of my "big" legs. At that time I didn't give a damn maybe coz I was more concerned and scared about my accident or maybe I was too young to react as I should have but now when I think about it it hits hard on me. Doctors and nurses shouldn't be like this, the majority of them shouldn't even be in the health area is they can't treat patients properly

@peps I agree completely, nurses do lack empathy. I've often thought that a lot of nurses really have no valuable skills you couldn't learn at home, even the skills they learn in nursing school. All they do is take care of people in really menial and manual ways, hard work, having to clean shat pants and whatnot but it isn't mining for coal or fishing for Alaskan crab or getting shot at by terrorists.
I think most nurses in 2022 if they were born 150 years ago would be brood mothers, spitting out 11 kids and taking care of those kids as her job. They're doing something 98% of women in history did as their main "career" and apparently are saints for it. The difference is, the woman 150 years ago cared.
The nurse likes the money she gets from the very basic job that takes little real training and the validation for doing something every ancestor she's ever had has done for no pay.

This is sad….shame on them for collecting massive paychecks and can’t even respect a person. I’ve learned over time that doctors and nurses really don’t know it all or have manners. My mom was a nurse for 40 years and she mentioned that doctors talked down to the nurses all the time and were rude to patients.
I have IBSC and the “expert” doctor who saw me asked where I worked and ridiculed me about my workplace and religion. He told me to eat a fiber bar and that would solve everything. To anyone who faced someone as rude as a doctor or nurse you aren’t alone.

I'm siding with reality because I personally know that teachers talk about their students in unflattering ways, especially the little Karens and Ethels. Yes, it's very sad that our physicians are burning out and behaving badly, but now we no longer practice free speech when we have the expectations of privacy, and medical staff is no longer allowed to release tension about the stressful nature of their jobs. Yes, the professionals should assume every patient can hear and understand them, but they're also taught to assume the exact opposite in other instances.
What I'm trying to explain is that neither one of the patients seemed to do their best to accept the fact that medical staff is comprised of human beings, instead of perfect socially programmed automatons, and medical staff is not practicing workplace behaviors to reduce exhaustion. Training and education can only work if both sides are receptive to new information and change.

I wonder how the patients treated them before they went under. That's probably why they recorded, because they knew they treated them bad first. But the doctors still should have been professional and not roast a patient while they sleep lmao.

And just so everyone knows, A fellow doctor once said about his peers that half of them are sadistic. In other words they get off on having power and control over you and inflicting pain on you and then making you pay for it. So ALWAYS ask - if a treatment is painful, what is the PAINLESS alternative. There almost always is one. If they say none, get a second opinion…you might have a sadist for a doctor.

When I was pretty young (can't remember the age, I think it was 5 or 4? not sure), I had to go through a hernia surgery. When they put me on the stretcher to take me to the operating room, my dad came halfway there and when he let go, I started wailing really loud, calling out for my dad because I was scared. I had no idea where I was going and who these ladies pushing me on this stretcher were so I kept screaming for my dad. Once we got to the room, I still kept crying so the nurse legit told me "Shut up, kid" and I don't remember how but my parents heard of it. I guess the nurse said some pretty rude stuff outside the room too.

What about right to your face. I needed a cardiologist. My daughter worked in a cath lab and recommended one. On my very first visit we talked about my daughter and he said ‘why you bring such a thing into the world’!!! I was dumbfounded and blindsided. I got defensive and he laughed and tried to cover up the remark. Needless to say he’s no longer my dr. Such arrogance!!’n

Its clear how despicable people have become. That even someone with a higher education is still......despicable.
Every single one of their names should be plastered on here so the public would know - to stay away from them. I don't want them as healthcare givers - no one in their right mind would.

As a ret. RRT that did many hours in surgery with the anesthesiologists at a certain hospital in Texas, I witnessed this often. And particularly one surgeon that has since passed. It was disgusting. I don't blame her for doing it.

@Jeremy thank you Jeremy like how these ppl not get that is somebody is getting surgery clearly it is serious and like you said when you are super polite with doctors they often do blow you off even more so when you are a black woman cause in the medical field there are already racist stereotypes that blk women exagerrate pain which couldn't be further from the truth and that women was blk. There is no doubt in my mind that those doctors put her through it and kept dismissing her pain until she was forced to get aggressive. Nobody wants to die and suffer especially if it can be prevented. And often times just that happens cause arrogant doctors who think they know it all ignore patience when they say they are in pain.

I mean, we don't really know about the whole "I'm gonna call my lawyer" thing. She might be a pain in the ass to them, making their day more stressful.
Obviously, these doctors wouldn't talk trash to her if she was nice to them. Also, it's not like they messed her surgery up or anything.
And don't fucking tell me you never had any remarks on people in your job who were making your day miserable by, for example, threatening with lawyers.

I was awake for a cath procedure and my conscious sedation did not work. I was yelling at them “I can hear you! I can feel what you’re doing” and they ignored me. I remember every detail about the procedure, including the smell of the room, the temperature, and the people. I remember the doc yelling at the techs.

When I worked in the emergency room for a while, I could NOT believe the way patients were talked about and mocked behind their backs. Everyone assumed most were lying , embellishing their problems or just drug seeking. It was awful to see how they judged every person coming in.

@Marilyn Brown for example, when you come into my office and tell me you have unbearable, constant ankle/back/neck pain and can barely walk with pain at 9 on a 1-10 scale and I see you the next day on a 5 mile run not struggling at all…. I can say with 110% certainty that you were lying or at the bare minimum greatly embellishing your injuries.
This type of thing happened at least once a day for me while I did clinic work. I’m naturally not going to trust anyones word when I am constantly catching them in lies…
Maybe you had different experiences but I won’t be wasting my time with someone who bruised their ankle trying to convince me it’s a 3 way break for whatever their reason is

It is outrageous ..is what it is. If possible..and a person is able to communicate...they have to vocalize what is going on. IT DOES COUNT. When the Hospital starts asking for donations...tll them why you are not going it. The immediate thing, though,is to. go to the Head of the Hospital..even if you have to sit outside their office. As an employee..it can be done with your name not given in a private note to the Head.
